Up to a foot of snow expected in Chicago
______________________________

18 Dec 08 – "Tomorrow is going to be dangerous," said Illinois Department of Transportation spokeswoman Marisa Kollias.

A winter storm warning has been issued for most of the Chicago area – including Cook County, the collar counties and much of Northwest Indiana.

North of Interstate 80 into the Chicago area, 6 to 12 inches of snow are expected, with sleet in some areas to the south. In Lake and McHenry counties in Illinois and Kenosha County in Wisconsin, 8 to 14 inches of snow could fall.

Snow could be falling at a rate of 1 to 2 inches per hour early in the morning.

In areas south of I-80, up to 2 to 5 inches of snow and sleet may fall along with 1/2 inch of ice – enough to cause damage to power lines and tree limbs, the National Weather Service reported.
