Underwater volcano erupts 90 miles
Fish and Wildlife Personnel on Sarigan reportedly heard a loud explosion from the south, and shortly thereafter noticed ash falling around them. They also reported the sound of a wave passing by.
The Weather Service reports that the volcano ejected hot water vapor
and sent ash up to 40, 000 feet.
"USGS monitors don't have
instruments on submarine volcanoes, and it took a while for
scientists to pinpoint the exact location of the volcano," said this
article on cnn.com.
