Top UN climate official resigns

I don't think that's enough

18 Feb 10 - Yvo de Boer, the UN's top climate change official, says he will resign after nearly four years in the post, says this article on Newsmax.

As the UN's climate negotiator, the former Dutch civil servant was widely credited with raising the profile of climate change issues.

But suspicion and distrust between developing and industrial countries kept them from reaching a binding accord at the UN's climate change summit in Copenhagen in December, the article continues.

Meanwhile, a different UN climate body - the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) - has come under fire in recent months for insisting that Himalayan glaciers are melting, while referencing research that had not been peer-reviewed.

The head of the IPCC, Dr Rajendra Pachauri, has rejected calls for his resignation.

And an inquiry is now underway to consider whether the e-mail exchanges between researchers at the Climatic Research Unit (CRU) at the University of East Anglia, UK, show an attempt to manipulate or suppress data "at odds" with scientific practice.

I don't think it's enough that de Boer resign, or that Pachauri resign. I think
the entire UN climate change apparatus - including the IPCC - is corrupt,
biased, self-serving, and should be dismantled.
