Talk about on the rocks -
Drillers seek whiskey lost in Antarctica in 1909

16 Nov 09 - "MSN has an interesting article about an expedition to Antarctica to find some vintage Scotch whiskey that was abandoned in 1909,” says reader Paul Mistretta. “You'd think that if the ice caps were shrinking\melting this would be an easy task, but it appears that "the crates and bottles were too deeply embedded in ice to be dislodged".

Whyte & Mackay, a drinks group, has asked for a sample of the 100-year-old scotch to help them decide whether to re-launch the now-defunct Scotch.

Workers found the crates of whiskey frozen in Antarctic ice under Sir Ernest Shackleton's Nimrod Expedition hut near Cape Royds in 2006.
