  • Hundreds of houses collapse under the weight of the snow.
     

  • Hundreds of motorists stranded in deep drifts.
     

  • 12,000 soldiers deployed to rescue stranded residents.
     

  • Damage expected to run into several million dollars.
     

  • The Han River in Seoul iced over for the first time in years.
     

  • One newspaper described it as a snow bomb.
     

  • In addition to the snow, January was the coldest since the 1960s.
     

  • Donhae, Gangwon, recorded 80cm (30 inches) of snow in a single day - the most snowfall in 24 hours since records began in 1911.
     

  • Donhae then went on for a total two-day accumulation of 40 inches (more than a meter).
