25 Jun 11 - Minot, N.D.- The Souris River broke a 130-year-old record on Friday.

The river rose "so quickly that it could be seen climbing up the side of homes in the North Dakota city," says this article on US Today.

At noon, the river measured 1,558.52 feet above sea level, about 9. 5 feet above flood stage and a half-foot higher than the previous record set in 1881.

With 12,000 residents already evacuated from the beleaguered city, the Souris River is expected to rise as much as 6 or 7 feet higher over the weekend.
