27 Apr 11 - Snowbird Ski Resort in Utah is reporting a season total snowfall of 690 inches — 57 feet — a record for that resort. Neighboring Alta has already eclipsed 700 inches.

As of Wednesday, Alta had received 18 inches of new snow this week, with half the week to go. Alta now reports an existing settled snow depth of 200 inches — almost 17 feet.

Snowbird and Alta are not alone.

According to Brian McInerney, hydrologist, National Weather Service, snowpacks in northern and eastern Utah are at least 180 percent of normal.

Even more snow is forecast for the mountains on Friday ... at a time when the snow should be melting.
