27 Mar 09 - Residents of a Fargo neighborhood south of downtown were forced to evacuate their homes Friday after authorities found a leak in a dike on the swollen Red River.

The river had risen to 40.32 feet — more than 22 feet above flood stage and slightly higher than the previous high-water mark of 40.10 feet set in 1897.

President Obama declared the floods “a wake up call to take global
warming seriously,” says newsman Corky Boyd. “He opened his mouth
before checking the facts,” says Boyd. “In reality North Dakota and
Minnesota, the sources of the Red River, had a much colder than
normal winter. For North Dakota it was the 18th coldest and for
Minnesota the 19th coldest in the past 114 years.”
