Record snowfall blankets parts of North Dakota

10 Feb 09 - A no-travel advisory was issued by the North Dakota Department of Transportation for all of western and central North Dakota after a winter storm dumped a record 8.3 inches of thick, wet snow in the Williston area.

Snow is typically dry in the Williston area because it usually comes from the northwest and it’s cold, said Todd Hamilton, National Weather Service meteorologist in Bismarck.

However, this rather large, warm, low-pressure system came from the West Coast and pulled up plenty of moisture from the Gulf of Mexico, Hamilton said.
