2 Feb 11 - A massive winter storm dumped record snowfall on the nation's heartland, shut down interstate highways, forced cancellation of  more than 4,000 flights on Tuesday, and thousands more on Wednesday.

According to the National Weather Service, Chicago's O'Hare International Airport received a record-breaking 19.5 inches of snow, not only shattering the previous record of 4.0 inches for the date set on February 1, 1967, but also establishing a new all-time daily snowfall record for the entire month.

Chicago's previous snowfall record for February was 11.5 inches, set on February 18, 1908.

In Oklahoma City, Will Rogers World Airport doubled its record snowfall on Tuesday with 11.8 inches.

Next on the agenda? Plunging temperatures. Temperatures are expected to drop below zero Fahrenheit  in the upper Plains over the next few days.
