Record-setting rainfall across the Northeast

Including Boston, Newark and Queens

30 Mar 10 - This is now the wettest March on record in many parts of the Northeast, including Boston, Newark and Queens, says this article in the New York Times. According to the National Weather Service, total March rainfall had reached 10.63 inches in Central Park by Tuesday evening, beating the old record set in 1983.

"In low-lying areas, streets seemed passable only in kayaks. Along New York Avenue in Huntington, on Long Island, water spurted out of manhole covers like little geysers."

“Some places are going to get almost two months’ worth of rain out of this system, but in 72 hours,” said AccuWeather meteorologist Tom Kines.

I'm concerned that farmers won't be able to move equipment onto their sodden fields when it comes time for spring planting.
