Record-setting cold April in Seattle

30 Apr 11 -  NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE SEATTLE WA
WITH A HIGH OF 56 DEGREES ON SATURDAY THE AVERAGE HIGH TEMPERATURE  FOR THE MONTH OF APRIL AT SEATTLE TACOMA AIRPORT IS 52.2 DEGREES...  THE COLDEST AVERAGE MONTHLY HIGH TEMPERATURE ON RECORD FOR APRIL IN SEATTLE SINCE RECORDS STARTED BEING KEPT AT THE FEDERAL BUILDING IN 1891.

SATURDAY WAS THE 4TH DAY WITH A HIGH GREATER THAN 55 DEGREES FOR THE  MONTH. THIS SETS THE RECORD FOR THE LEAST AMOUNT OF DAYS IN THE  MONTH OF APRIL WITH HIGHS GREATER THAN 55 DEGREES. THE PREVIOUS  RECORD WAS 6 DAYS SET BACK IN 1955 AT SEATTLE TACOMA AIRPORT AND IN  1917 AT THE FEDERAL BUILDING.

THE AVERAGE NUMBER OF DAYS WITH HIGHS GREATER THAN 55 DEGREES IN APRIL AT SEATTLE TACOMA AIRPORT SINCE
RECORDS STARTED AT THE AIRPORT IS 16 DAYS.
 
THE AVERAGE TEMPERATURE FOR THE MONTH OF APRIL IN SEATTLE IS 45.5 DEGREES. IF THIS STANDS IT WILL GO DOWN AS THE THIRD COLDEST APRIL ON RECORD IN TERMS OF AVERAGE TEMPERATURE SURPASSED ONLY BY THE 44.6 DEGREES IN 1955 AND THE 45.5 DEGREES IN 1948. THE COLDEST APRIL AT THE FEDERAL BUILDING IN TERMS OF AVERAGE TEMPERATURE WAS 45.6 DEGREES IN 1920.
 
FOR THE MONTH OF APRIL THERE WERE 27 DAYS WITH BELOW NORMAL TEMPERATURES...2 DAYS WITH ABOVE NORMAL TEMPERATURES
 
IT WAS ALSO A WET APRIL IN  SEATTLE. MONTHLY TOTAL RAINFALL AT THE AIRPORT WAS 4.47 INCHES... THE 4TH WETTEST APRIL ON RECORD AT THE AIRPORT AND 7TH  WETTEST APRIL OVERALL INCLUDING RECORDS FROM THE FEDERAL BUILDING.
