Polar bears drifting from Greenland to Iceland
on ice floes
"Some forecasters think it may just be a climatic aberration.”
______________________

.
6 Feb 07 - Thick packs of ice - not seen for almost 40 years - have been drifting from Greenland into Iceland’s western fjords across some of the best fishing grounds, followed by bitter winds and plummeting temperatures.

Fishermen who supply the Humber and other important centers in Western Europe have been unable to put to sea, leading to a marked drop in catches. (Expect fish prices to rise.)

The drifting ice has carried “dozens” of polar bears to Iceland’s shores.

“When chunks break off the bears become stranded, drifting helplessly on the floes. There have been a number of stories of bears making land around Iceland and having to be shot because they pose a danger to humans and livestock.

“The return of pack ice to Iceland goes against all the forecasts of doom of global warming, although some forecasters think it may just be a climatic aberration.”

article was dated 6 Feb 07. My apologies.)
