No electric power, no email, no Internet
An inactive sun could lead us into the next ice age
As if it weren't enough, says Stan Deyo, the resultant large geomagnetic storms that sometimes occur during periods of low sunspot activity can create electric currents that corrode the metal in oil pipelines, disrupt satellite and land-based communications, short-circuit satellite electronics, and interfere with navigational systems on ships and aircraft.
"While this sounds rather clinical," says Deyo, "imagine no electric power, no email, no Internet and on and on."
