18 Oct 09 - MORE RECORDS FROM THE RARE ARCTIC OUTBREAK OCTOBER 8-12, 2009...

LAST WEEK, FROM OCT 8-12, 2009, WAS THE ONE OF THE LONGEST AND COLDEST ARCTIC OUTBREAKS FOR THE MONTH OF OCTOBER. THIS WAS A RARE EVENT FOR A SEVERAL REASONS.

FIRST, RECORDS WERE SET FOR THE NUMBER OF DAYS IN A ROW THAT RECORD LOW TEMPERATURES HAD OCCURRED IN KALISPELL AND MISSOULA (OVER 110 YEARS OF RECORDS).

SECONDLY, THE RECORD LOWS ON OCTOBER 11-12 IN MISSOULA AND KALISPELL WERE SMASHED BY 14 DEGREES. THIS BREAKS THE RECORD OF GREATEST AMOUNT OF DEGREES BELOW THE OLD RECORD TEMPERATURE, FOR ANY TIME OF YEAR.

THIS WAS THE EARLIEST TIME IN THE SEASON WESTERN MONTANA HAS SEEN SUCH LOW TEMPERATURES.

RECORD LOWS SET THIS PAST EVENT AND HOW MUCH IT BROKE THE RECORD BY.
