18 Jan 10 - A video at www.weather.com says the jet stream is bringing 5 major storms to California this week at 200-250 mph.
That seemed awfully fast to reader Stephanie Relfe, so she looked on Wikipedia (here) to learn what the normal speed is.
It says: "Wind speeds vary according to the temperature gradient, exceeding 92 kilometres per hour (50 kn), although speeds of over 398 kilometres per hour have been measured.[
"398 km/hr is 247 mph!," says Stephanie. "So we have five storms being brought to California at RECORD JET STREAM SPEEDS!"
Evacuations recommended against flash floods and “murderous mudslides”
Here's an article that confirms Stephanie's words:
"It's screaming up there right now," he said Friday. "This is incredibly potent stuff."
