Icebreakers can’t keep up  

 

- 5 Jul 06 - Aging American icebreakers are having trouble getting through an
unusual ice build-up in McMurdo Sound. 


New Zealand
's Scott Base and the American McMurdo Sounds station are
serviced by sea through McMurdo Sound . "Without ship access you can't get
fuel," said New Zealand Antarctic Institute chief executive Lou Sanson.

New Zealand is working with the United States and Italy on the issue.
