Farmers concerned

12 Apr 11 -  A cold weather front coming from the Balkans has drastically affected the weather in eastern Turkey.

Snowfall, which started on Monday night, has been increasing and spreading across the region, leading to closure of 111 roads and bringing daily life to a standstill in most eastern provinces.

Erzurum, the heaviest hit thus far, had 6 centimeters of snow and, at minus 3 degrees Celsius, the lowest temperature in the country.

The province of Gaziantep, which suffered flooding on Saturday and Sunday, also woke up to snowfall on Monday.

Farmers are becoming increasingly concerned about damage to their crops as a result of the snowfall.

Turkey's eastern Anatolia region continues to receive heavy snowfall on Monday, with meteorologists predicting that the snowfall will continue in the region until the weekend.
