300 motorists had to be rescued on the Glenshane Pass

31 Mar 10

Hi Robert,

We have had a harsh snowstorm in Ireland yesterday. Indeed, before sundown there were blizzard-like conditions. These conditions were widespread at low levels across most of Ireland (excluding the extreme west) Between 1 inch and 15 inches of snow were observed. This is amazing considering that we had an inch of rain before the snow set in and we have had around two weeks of mild spring time weather previous that allowed soil temperatures reach 8c (near 50F).

In County Derry, about 300 people had to be rescued from their vehicles on the Glenshane Pass.

This report shows that nearly 75,000 households in both Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland lost electricity... http://www.rte.ie/news/2010/0331/weather.html

Regards,

Daniel Dunne
