Earliest opening in the history of Kitzbuehel, Austria
_____________________________

9 Nov 07 - Kitzbuhel ski resort will opened some of its runs on November 10th, six weeks ahead of schedule, and the earliest in its history.

Over 80cm (32 inches) of fresh snow had fallen in Kitzbuhel at the time, enabling the Panoramabahn Kitzbueheler Alpen and the Resterkogel chairlifts to take skiers and boarders up the mountain. More lifts were planned to open over the next few weeks.

Elsewhere in Austria, it been snowing heavily since Wednesday and the snow line is predicted to come down to 400m by the end of the week.

Lech, which is due to open on December 1st, received 20cm on Wednesday and an extra metre is forecast to arrive over the weekend. Sõlden got 30cm on Wednesday and currently have 31km of ski terrain open.

Other Austrian resorts that have glaciers open include Hintertux, Dachstein, Kaunertal, Kaprun, Mölltal, Pitztal, and Stubai.

See also www.wengen.com where you will see predictions on the precipitation charts of 1 metre of snow in a leading Swiss resort over the next week, which has already received 25cm up top and 1 - 15cm at village level.
