Darwin bracing for lowest June temp on record
14 Jun 11 - The tropical Top End* is bracing for its lowest June temperature on record tomorrow morning, says this article by James Glenday.

According to senior forecaster David Matthews, it was about 7 degrees Celsius colder than average in Darwin early this morning, dropping to 12.7C, and will be even cooler tomorrow.

"The June record for Darwin Airport is 12.1C and that was on June 23, 1963," says Matthews. "There is a good chance we could get below 12.1C, probably tomorrow morning."

"Temperatures have been below average, well below average, by about three or four degrees at least," Matthews added.

The forecast low for Alice Springs in central Australia tomorrow is -1C.

* The Top End is the second northernmost point on the Australian continent, thus quite tropical. Darwin, the most northerly of Australia's capital cities, acts as the Top End's regional center.
