Copenhagen Summit Turned Junket?

"The biggest party of the year," says Sen. Inhof

11 Jan 10 - CBS investigative correspondent Sharyl Attkisson reports that at least 20 members of Congress attended the Copenhagen Climate Change Conference (and names them) in an article posted  today on CBS News.

"Finding out more was a bit like trying to get the keys to Ft. Knox," said Attkisson. Speaker Pelosi 's office  wouldn't give cost estimates or even say where they all stayed.

"They're going because it's the biggest party of the year," said  Sen. Inhofe (R-OK). "The worst thing that happened there is they ran out of caviar."

The congressional delegation was so large, says Attkisson, that "it needed three military jets: two 737's and a Gulfstream Five -- up to 64 passengers -- traveling in luxurious comfort. "

"Add senators and staff, most of whom flew commercial (up to $2,000 each)," and we counted at least 101 Congress-related attendees," says Attkisson

Attkisson estimates the cost to taxpayers, including three military jets at $9,900 per hour, dozens of commercial flights, 321 hotel rooms (most in a five-star hotel), and tens of thousands of dollars for meals (and that caviar).

My state's governor, Christine Gregoire, also attended, along with
some local dignitaries. I don't know why their presence was needed,
nor do I know who paid their way. Might be interesting to find out.

Might also be interesting to find out how many other state and local
politicians around the country found it necessary to take an all-
        expense paid junket to Copenhagen.
