The Convenient Mistake

NASA quietly fixes flawed temperature data;
1998 was NOT the warmest year in the millenium

Air Conditioning Units Next to Temperature Gauge

9 Aug07 - While inspecting historical temperature graphs, Steve McIntyre, who operates the site, noticed a strange discontinuity, or "jump" for many locations around January 2000.

These graphs were created by NASA's Reto Ruedy and James Hansen. Hansen refused to provide McKintyre with the algorithm used to generate graph data, so McKintyre reverse-engineered it. The result appeared to be a Y2K bug in the handling of the raw data.

McKintyre notified the pair of the bug; Ruedy replied and acknowledged the problem as an "oversight" that would be fixed in the next data refresh.

NASA has now silently released corrected figures, and the changes are truly astounding. The warmest year on record is now 1934. 1998 (long trumpeted by the media as record-breaking) moves to second place. 1921 takes third. In fact, 5 of the 10 warmest years on record now all occur before World War II.

In other words: Four of the top ten are in the 1930’s, before mainstream scientists believe humans had any discernible impact on temperatures.

            What a convenient mistake.

If you will recall, Hansen received a $250,000 grant
from the charitable foundation headed by former
Democrat Presidential candidate John Kerry's wife,
           Teresa Heinz.

Subsequent to the Heinz Foundation grant, Hansen
publicly endorsed Democrat John Kerry for president
            in 2004. (

You’d think the mainstream media would want to
jump on this story, but I strongly suspect that it will
            receive little to no mention.

Whatever happened to good old-fashioned integrity?

Canadian research scientist Steven McIntyre, whose expertise is in mineral exploration has now made two major contributions to climate science.
Author of numerous articles on the made up name 'global warming' a nd the real science of 'climate change'; McIntyre has recently discovered evidence that destroys the hypothetical theories brought on by James Hansen (who made up the name 'global warming' in 1988) and Michael Mann who developed the famous 'hockey stick' chart convincing us so-called global warming is caused by human pollution.

McIntyre proved how the Mann "hockey stick" used in all Gore's movie, An Inconvenient Truth, was based on unsupportable data and methods.

Now he has proved how yearly temperature anomalies for the USA are based on incorrect data.
