Coldest July on record in six states
 __________________

10 Aug 09 – “July 2009 was officially the coldest July on record in six U.S. states, according to the National Climatic Data Center,” said an article today in USA today. “Specifically, Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, West Virginia and Pennsylvania.”

“Not one of the coldest, mind you, but the absolute, rock-bottom, chilliest on record. Records go back to 1895. Meanwhile, four others – Michigan, Wisconsin, Missouri and Kentucky — had their 2nd-coldest July ever recorded.”

We’re not talking about a record cold day here, mind you, but
an entire month. Nor are we talking about just one small town
breaking a record, we’re talking six entire states! With four
more states on the runner-up list!

The article then goes on to remind us that even while these
states were breaking the low temperature records, that much
of the rest of the world was warmer than usual – perhaps due
         to El Nino.

Extent of glaciation during the last ice age

What concerns me is that many of these states were covered
with glaciers during the last ice age, while the states lying to
the south weren’t much colder than today.

This means that even if other parts of the world are basking
in the sun, the northern-tier states could turn into frigid ice
boxes. They’ve done it in the past. Why would now be any
         different?

Senators, wake up! We’re going to need every ounce of energy
that we can lay our hands on.
