The third Annual Ice Age Flood Fest 2011, hosted by the Dry Falls Visitor Center, will take place on Saturday, June 25 and Sunday, June 26, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Dry Falls Visitor Center, located 17 miles north of Soap Lake, Washington on Highway 17.

I'll be giving a one-hour presentation on Saturday beginning at 2:30. If you're in the area, please join us.

As the festival's website says, you can meet the authors, geologists and artists who have captured the meanings and essence of this catastrophic event. Activities include book signings, art, lectures, guided hikes, crafts for the kids and movies. Eat great food provided by Top Chef, one of Washington’s finest food caterers. Visit with the Master Gardeners of Grant and Adams counties.

It will also include hiking tours lead by geologist Bruce Bjornstad, renowned author of “On the Trail of the Ice Age Floods,” who also plans on signing books and doing a lecture. Gene Kiver, professor emeritus of geology at Eastern Washington University and Ice Age Floods Institute Executive Committee Member, will assist Bjornstad with the guided hikes.

Other author appearances include Craigmore Creations’ Creative Director David Shapiro, who will be giving an Ice Age floods lecture at 3:30 p.m. Saturday, June 25. He has written two wonderful books: one on the Ice Age floods, “Terra Tempo,” and one on the Ice Ages, “Blunderbuss Wanderlust.” See and the promotional site for "Terra Tempo,"

Professional photographers Rick and Sylvia Thompson of Giga Flood will be selling panorama photos, prints, booklets and driving guides for the southwest Washington and Northwest Oregon area. Rick will also present a PowerPoint lecture on the flood evidence. Learn more about them and their work at

John Soennichsen, author of "Bretz's Flood" will sign and sell his books. He will also do a lecture and slide show on J Harlen Bretz in the Visitor Center Theater room at 1 p.m. on Saturday, June 25.

Robert Felix, author of "Not by Fire but by Ice," will give a presentation starting around 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, June 25 on the next coming Ice Age.
Mark S. Amara, author of "Geologic Road Trips in Grant County, Washington." The road trips in this book describe in detail natural sights to investigate along the roadsides on more than 400 miles of highways and country roads through Grant County, highlighting the catastrophic events that created some of the most extraordinary landscapes on earth. Mark will be present to sign his book on Sunday, June 26 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
