10 Jun 11 - As of the end of May, the snow on California's Mammoth Mountain had not even begun to melt. It still had twice as much snow as it receives during an entire normal winter.

Look at the snow pillow percentages on this pdf.

A snow pillow is a device - typically 10-foot (3 meters) square - for measuring snowpack. It measures the water equivalent of the snow pack based on hydrostatic pressure.

Snow pillows, which were developed in the early 1960s, can also be used to estimate the snow weight on a roof to warn of potential for roof collapse.
