2,778 February snowfall records broken in US

4 Mar 11 - Many snowfall records standing more than 100 years were shattered this month.  Here is a list of days in February 2011 showing the most significant records totaling 100 or more:

  • 404 New Records on Feb 2nd.

  • 224 New Records on Feb 1st

  • 219 New Records on Feb 9th

  • 179 New Records on  Feb 21st

  • 170 New Records on  Feb 25th

  • 158 New Records on   Feb 10th

  • 116  New Records on Feb 20th

  • 111 New Records on Feb 22nd

  • 110 New Records on Feb 5th

  • 109  New Records on Feb 8th

Kenneth also thought it was worth mentioning that the total snowfall to date as of Feb 28th, 2011 at Squaw Valley, CA was 450 inches, or 37.5 feet at 8,200 foot elevation. The 8,200 foot settled snow base there as of Feb 28th was 185 inches, or 15.4 feet !!

At Kirkwood Resort, the seasonal total range is now up to 517" (over 43 feet !) and the base depth is now up to 193" (over 16 feet !) http://www.kirkwood.com/site/mountain/snow-report/2011-3-2-2
