19 Dec 09 - Snowplows cleared the runway at Andrews Air Force Base as President Obama returned from climate talks in Copenhagen. Poor baby was forced to take a motorcade back to the White House instead of his normal helicopter ride because of the conditions.
Mayors in Washington and Philadelphia declared snow emergencies and
forecasters said conditions could worsen. Governors in Virginia, West
Virginia and Kentucky declared states of emergency.
Some 14 inches of snow has already fallen on Washington, DC, with more
on the way. Forecasts call for up to 20 inches of snow across
southeastern Pennsylvania, eastern Maryland, Delaware, New Jersey, Long
Island, and southern New England.
Travel on interstate highways I-76, I-80, I-95, and countless local streets and highways, will be difficult and dangerous if not impossible.
Snowfalls have been monstrous: up to 30 inches in West Virginia's
Potomac Highlands, and two feet between Charlottesville, Virginia, and
Beckley, West Virginia.
Welcome home, Mr. President.
