Severe cold coming to Holland

Hi Robert,
This article was in the online version of the Dutch
newspaper De Telegraaf:

It says that from next week onwards the temperatures are forecast to dip so deep that another "Elfsteden Tocht" (eleven cities tour) is on the cards (http://www.elfstedentocht.nl/).
That is a rather special event in the province of Friesland where after many days and nights of severe frost the lakes, rivers and canals freeze over to allow a skating marathon of over 200km.
Piers Corbyn (of WeatherAction.com) also predicts the return of winter soon, so for once there is agreement between solar-based and standard meteorology.
In the 1940's and 50's this event was more regular, there were 6 runs in those two decades. In the 60's to the 90's only 4 events were held; the last one on 4 January 1997. (http://www.elfstedentocht.nl/nl/de_vereniging/historie)
Maybe the tide has turned and we are heading towards a period of global cooling - all the while that the carbon dioxide level keeps rising.
