Record Lows - 2004

Record low temperatures in the United States

 .

I'm including extreme rainfall here because that's
what causes ice ages ... excess precipitation. If
you want to know how much snow would fall
if a rainstorm should change to snow, just add a
zero. (One inch of rain - add a zero - will turn
to 10 inches of snow.) Rainfall has increased so
dramatically that I'm only including accumulations
 of 1½ inches or more.

Snow hammers central United States – Jan 5, 2005 – A huge storm dumped up to 20 inches of snow from the Rockies to the northeast Wednesday ( Aspen got 20 inches of snow in just 12 hours), shutting down roads and airports as temperatures plummeted to record lows. Ten times normal rainfall in Texas - “ Texas just experienced its wettest November on record, and the records go back to 1895. Major cities throughout the state accumulated November rainfall totals that ranged from three to nearly ten times normal amounts. Austin recorded 350mm rain, which is 526% of normal.”

”June 2004 was also the wettest June on record in Texas . Now it looks as though 2004 may turn out to be the state’s wettest year on record.

”These record rainfall totals have been achieved without the aid of tropical storms or hurricanes.”

More snow than normally falls in an entire year - The National Guard rescued stranded travelers in Indiana as record-breaking snows shut down I-64 from Evansville to the Illinois state line. Evansville received 19.3 inches of snow, well over the normal yearly total of 14.2 inches, and shattering the record for any single day.

In Kentucky : Paducah got 14 inches, again well over the normal snowfall of 10 inches for the entire year. Amarillo , Texas received 3.7 inches of snow, more than triple the previous record for the date, while up to 20 inches of snow fell in parts of Ohio , leaving more than 300,000 homes and businesses without power. Meanwhile, residents of Arkansas are looking forward to only the ninth white Christmas in 120 years.
