19 Mar 11 - Washington's North Cascades Highway is buried beneath so much snow
that road crews expect the latest opening in 20 years, says this article on

Two days ago, Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) crews "found five to 20 feet of snow at Cutthroat Ridge avalanche zone, which they say is normal." However, when they checked out the Liberty Bell avalanche zone, the snow measured about 60 feet (six stories) deep. Normal depths range anywhere from 10 to 50 feet. More snow is expected.
