Hi Robert,
Here was NIWA's forcast for August and October:
“The climate over the next three month period is
expected to be typical of
early spring right across New
Zealand, according to the latest outlook from
NIWA’s National Climate Centre.
“Following the third cold month in
a row, the centre says temperatures for
the coming season (August, September,
and October combined) are likely
to be about average. Rainfalls are
also likely to be near normal in all regions.”
Now compare it to the latest weather advisory for New Zealand:
“ANOTHER COLD OUTBREAK ON WEDNESDAY AND
THURSDAY
“MetService forecasters are
predicting another cold outbreak to affect the
country on Wednesday and Thursday. A
very cold southerly airstream is
expected to move quickly north over
the South Island on Wednesday and
the North Island on Thursday.
“Over the South Island, snow showers are expected to
lower to 500 metres
in Otago, Southland and Fiordland
during Wednesday afternoon and to 300
metres in the evening; while for
Canterbury and Marlborough snow showers
should lower to 500 metres in the
evening and to 300 metres overnight
Wednesday.
“The cold outbreak is expected to
hit the North Island on Thursday. Snow
showers are likely to lower to 700
metres from Taihape southwards, and
even to 500 metres for a time early
morning about Wellington, Wairarapa
and Manawatu.
“...the snow is likely to affect higher
roads and passes. The cold outbreak
will also be driven by very strong
southerlies, resulting in very low wind chill
temperatures, which are likely to
cause distress to livestock."
Yes we have globaloney here in New Zealand as well.
Incidently, the head of NIWA had an unusually large pay increase in a
recession - its all over the news here.
