25 Jun 11 - Record snowfall across much of the West has prompted many ski resorts to remain open for the 4th of July weekend. In Lake Tahoe, California, Squaw Valley, Sugar Bowl and Alpine Meadows resorts will all be operating over the holiday weekend. Another California resort open for July 4 is Mammoth Mountain, which has recorded an incredible 728 percent of normal snowpack - more than seven times normal! "This season has been unlike anything I've ever seen here in Mammoth," Mammoth official Dan Hansen said. "It started snowing in November and didn't really stop until early June." Other resorts scheduled to remain open for July 4 include Mount Bachelor in Oregon, Arapahoe Basin in Colorado and Snowbird in Utah. And the last I heard, Washington's Crystal Mountain Ski Resort was also hoping to offer skiing on the 4th of July.
