|
More than 15 people died Saturday night in northern Uttar Pradesh state, NDTV news channel reported. The temperature dipped below 3 degrees in parts of Uttar Pradesh this week, with the mercury falling to 0.6 degrees in Agra, the city where the Taj Mahal is located. In the state capital, Lucknow, the government arranged all-night bonfires at major road crossings and near railway stations. India's meteorological department said the cold weather conditions were due to western disturbances that led to snowfall in the hill states and upper regions of the Himalayas. The department said the cold wave was likely to continue for another one to two days. http://www.earthtimes.org/articles/news/302928,over-200-dead-in-indias-cold-snap.html
