Himalayan glaciers not melting
the way we’re being told

17 Oct 06 - Glaciers in the Himalayas have not drastically shrunk and are unlikely
to melt away in coming decades, said Chinese scientists Zhang Wenjing, discounting
other forecasts that glaciers across western China and the Himalayas could disappear
in 50 years. "Those predictions may be excessively pessimistic," said Wenjing, a
glacier expert at the Chinese Academy of Sciences. "So far glaciers in the middle
and eastern part of the Himalayas have not shrunk on any large scale."

"The glaciers in the region are melting comparatively slowly."
