Saw your stories about Rockies on your site. This week in Europe it will snow too in the mountains - down to 1000m tomorrow with between 40 and 75cm in several ranges in Northern Switzerland and Western Austria. That's not unheard of but it's a continuation of the last two winters of heavy snowfall. For the record, the summer in Switzerland was a bit warmer than average....... The temperatures on Wednesday are likely to be very cold indeed - I've seen forecasts of minus five degrees for the DAY in one place in Switzerland. Overall, this storm may just be a blip, but it's a week-long blip coming in straight from the Arctic with a blocking high over Britain preventing the warm Atlantic air getting in. The arctic freeze season seems to be getting into gear after hanging around for a coupla weeks - might be interesting to see if Hudson Bay starts freezing earlier than normal this year.....the temperature forecasts seem to say below freezing continuously now all week......and satellites imply start of ice at northern extremities already. Maybe the global cooling for 30 year scenarios will
start to look more likely after this winter, eh?
