30 Jul 09 - No, says Professor Clifford Maas in the Department of Atmospheric Sciences at the University of Washington.

I (Robert) heard Maas being interviewed on a radio program yesterday. Unfortunately I was in an area where I couldn’t pull over to write down his exact words, but I’ll give you the gist of it.

Yes, it’s hot, said Maas, and yes, we broke a record, but it does not indicate a global warming trend. It’s just part of that variable stuff that we call weather.
