Cold kills 35 in Bolivia Residents blame climate change |
|

Residents in El Alto - a poor area of La Paz the worst hit - blame climate change for the harsh conditions, which buildings and heating systems in the area are not prepared for. “It is really cold here in El Alto, said El Alto resident Julian Quispe Patzi. "This kind of cold is dangerous. We are really worried because the climate is changing too much We don't usually have snow at this time of year, it isn't time for snow." Temperatures plunged to minus 5C (23F) in La Paz and the local weather services says the mercury will continue dropping in the days to come.
Record low temperatures are forecast for other parts of the country such as the
Salar de Uyuni, where the mercury is expected to drop to minus 22C (-7.6F). Thanks to Alex Meyer for this link
