Chaitén Volcano Erupts in Chile
20 Feb 09 – Chile’s Chaitén volcano roared back to life yesterday,
spewing
ash high into the air, sending volcanic material down the mountain's
slope, and
threatening to block a river and trigger flooding. A day earlier, it
spewed a vast
cloud of ash as well as gas and molten rock in a partial collapse of
its cone,
prompting a fresh evacuation.

a Tambora sized event — or worse.

continuously for several months, which is why it is compared to the Tambora
1815 event, which created the “Year Without a Summer.”
