30 Apr 11 - A powerful late-season storm over North Dakota is
bringing a return to winter weather for much of Southern and Central
Manitoba today.
General snowfall amounts of 10 to 20 cm are expected by Sunday morning, with
higher amounts of 30 to 50 cm (20 inches) over the higher elevations of
Western Manitoba. In addition, strong northerly winds, which have gusted at
times as high as 90 km/h, are resulting in near-zero visibility in snow and
blowing snow, primarily in west-Central Manitoba.
Conditions will slowly improve overnight and Sunday as the low moves into
Northwestern Ontario, although temperatures will remain well below normal.
Heavy snow and colder temperatures are expected on Sunday morning giving 10
to 15 cm of snowfall accumulations as well as reduced visibility in blowing
snow. Visibilities near zero are possible through Sunday. Wind gusts to 70
km/h are also likely from Sunday morning to Sunday evening as the low tracks
into Hudson Bay.
Meanwhile, a powerful late season blizzard is slamming much of Southeastern
Saskatchewan this morning including the Yorkton, Moosomin and Estevan areas.
General snowfall totals of 10 to 20 cm are expected over the warning area by
this evening with amounts of 20 to 30 cm over higher elevations.
